The Department of Psychology at Bilkent University is a young, dynamic department having admitted its first intake of undergraduate students in 2005-2006. Our team of academics is growing rapidly, bringing together international experience and world-class research. The language of teaching is English at Bilkent, which makes it possible for us to bring together international academics. Our faculty come from major universities across the UK and US and have published in top journals such as Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, Nature Neuroscience, Current Biology, Cognition, Vision Research, Visual Neuroscience, Visual Cognition, and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes , to name a few.
Bilkent is a top university in Turkey with international recognition in many fields, and it attracts some of the best students in the country. The university has a clear focus on research, and has one of the highest publishing rates in Turkey, placed at the top of the list most of the time. Research activity is supported and encouraged in the university with low teaching loads and good resources. In such an environment our emphasis is naturally very much on research as well as establishing a centre of excellence in the education of Psychology.
We are continually expanding in all areas of psychology although our initial emphasis has been on cognition and neuroscience which will continue to be the main focus of the department. We already established a group working on visual perception, which will continue to grow stronger. Another focus is emerging on developmental psychology, especially in the area of Theory of Mind. We offer a broad and modern core undergraduate program and as such, we intend to expand in other areas, keeping our focus on world-class research. We invite academics of all level and expertise to join our team.
